Crafted from Basswood or Walnut plywood and packaged in seed paper, Planttype markers do more than label, they release a steady supply of organic nutrients into the soil while helping you keep track of your plants, turning everyday gardening into a greener, simpler ritual.
Gardeners often rely on plastic labels that end up in landfills and use fertilisers that demand frequent reapplication and generate packaging waste, complicating sustainable care. Planttype streamlines both tasks by merging plant identification and nutrient delivery into a single plywood spike infused with a slow-release formula.
This wood marker replaces plastic stakes and single use fertiliser packets, delivering just the right amount of nourishment directly into the soil for a cleaner, more eco friendly gardening experience. All wrapped up in seed paper packaging.
Hi, I’m Olly, and this is the story of Planttype's creation.I've loved plants since childhood—my first two jobs were in gardens, and I've always dreamed of merging my passion for nature with my product design skills. Planttype was inspired during the annual “March for Men” charity walk in Bournemouth, an event I attend each year with my uncle Steve to support UHD Prostate Cancer services UK. While walking and talking, we came up with a rough idea for a stylish plant marker that could label a plant and also feed it.
At home, my girlfriend Robyn and I created real prototypes from that sketch. Planttype isn’t solely my idea; it emerged from numerous brainstorming sessions with friends, family, and fellow gardeners who provided insights, feedback, and encouragement, especially Ollie Tames. We’ve created a close community that infuses creativity and passion into every development step.I’m so thankful to all who’ve supported this dream. Planttype represents sustainable innovation that helps both people and plants—and this is just the start.
